Avast Internet Security Review

Avast Internet Security Review

AVAST VS AVG

1. Protection

Both these antiviruses over basic security e.g. web browsing and email protection. However with avast, one has Home network security and a software adapter for monitoring your other software. On the other hand AVG offers spying data theft protection controlling what kind of data you share with other applications.

2. Ease of use

Starting with installation time, the clear winner is Avast. Its installation time is relatively shorter than most antivirus software. AVG on the other hand takes quite a long time to install. Boot time of your computer is also slower with use AVG than Avast.

Both offer a variety of features which are easy to use. While avast uses a uniform color scheme to make it easy to view and identify protection and privacy tools, AVG uses icons.

3. Performance

Given a 50 GB basket of files to examine, again AVG comes up short. Avast clears its analysis of the files in a significant shorter time frame than AVG.

Verdict

It’s not easy to say which the best antivirus between the two is. However, according to most websites and social media Avast has a small lead ahead of AVG in the product market.

AVAST VS NORTON

1. Security

The only difference between Avast’s and Norton’s security is that Norton comes with added features such as parental controls and personal data filter. They pretty much share most of the other security features.

2. Ease of use

When it comes to installation time, as I mentioned earlier avast takes little time to install. Norton however takes up more time to complete installation. Both these antiviruses are easy to use since they are user-friendly. Their consistent and simple designs assist even the most clueless so one not need not worry if they are first time users.

3. Performance

Norton demonstrates better reliability than avast since it’s cleaning and repair processes scored significantly higher than avast.

Verdict

Norton earned the bronze award from Av-test while avast did not score high enough to be placed. One should however pick what works for them.

AVAST VS BITEDEFENDER

1. Protection

Avast outshines bitedefender since its safe zones protects users engaging in risky behavior. Unlike avast, bitedefender has parental controls, file encryption, a virtual keyboard and it blocks some specific websites.

2. Ease of use

Again we are faced with avast fast installation time which beats most of the antivirus software competition including bitedefender. Bitedefender like most antiviruses takes a while (around 33 seconds) to install. They both have similar designs since they both use icons that show the privacy and protection tools.

3. Performance

When it comes to performance, bitedefender is giving avast a run for their money. It not only has minimal impact on the systems performance while scanning but it can identify all malware threats on both windows 7 and 8 which may not be the case for avast.

Verdict

I must admit there is a clear winner here. Bitedefender not only offers more effectiveness and reliability but it outperforms avast by providing an extensive list of features and customization at a cheaper price.

AVAST VS MCAFEE

1. Protection

Avast provides social network protection, email support and rescue reboot. While McAfee doesn’t offer this features, it provides the user with parental controls, solid defense mechanism against attacks and offers chat where avast fails to deliver.

2. Ease of use

Both antiviruses are easy to use since they provide a variety of features to help the user select actions and provides quick access to the main dashboard. When the McAfee application is opened, it displays the security and system status to report progress from past scans.

3. Performance

McAfee’s advantage in performance is that with only one license one can protect all their devices. On the other hand Avast is very good at creating safe browsing and file sharing.

Verdict

The two seem very closely matched but avast, though slightly more expensive, shows more reliability and effectiveness than McaFee.

AVAST VS MALWAREBYTES

1. Protection

If using the free version, one is likely to be drawn towards avast since malwarebytes version is for repair thus provides little or no protection.

2. Ease of use

There’s not much to say about their ease of use since they are very similar. However avast as 5 support channel hence has greater chances of offering help using the software unlike malwarebytes which has 3 channels.

3. Performance

Malwarebytes is commonly used to remove malwares, hence the name. This makes it much faster and effective than avast. Avast takes its time since it scans through viruses in the computer system.

Verdict

Avast is by far way better than malwarebytes. However it is recommended that one combine them both to get better results since they will catch each other’s mistakes. Unlike most antiviruses they won’t conflict by being installed side to side.

AVAST VS KASPERSKY

1. Protection

When it comes to Avast, it offers a safe environment for free game playing and clicking on unsafe links. Kaspersky on the other hand offers a two way firewall, parental controls and user profiles which Avast lacks.

2. Ease of use

Kaspersky is the only antivirus to compete with Avast on installation time. They both take a short time to be up and running. They also provide and interface that is easy and user friendly.

3. Performance

Avast and Kaspersky have equivalent proactive performance and close to the same effect on reduced speed on the computer as they run.

Verdict

Though they both are similar in most features, Kaspersky is considered a more effective antivirus software than Avast since it provides a full list of features and use of parental controls.

AVAST VS PANDA

1. Protection

Panda allows you to ‘vaccinate’ your computer from threats that take advantage and are able to infect your computer the moment a USB is connected. Avast however has protection features that Panda may lack like use of a firewall to keep out hackers and scammers.

2. Ease of use

Panda is a viable choice for users searching for a removal tool that is simple to use because it is considered easier to operate than Avast. Panda also has a shorter installation time than Avast.

3. Performance

Avast is over 4 minutes faster completing a scan than Panda which is weaker on impact on systems with a nine second slow down because of daily use of software.

Verdict

Avast is a better fit for a more advanced virus detection because it is rated better in AV-tests than Panda and is an award winning product.

AVAST VS MSE

1. Protection

Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials both have similar features for protection against malwares and viruses. However the efficiency to detect this viruses is lower in MSE than it is in Avast thus Avast provides better protection.

2. Ease of Use

A major difference between Avast and MSE is that Avast’s setup file is 10 times as large as MSE’s. Avast also requires 10 times more space than MSE. So MSE tends to be more user friendly and takes it easy on your storage space.

3. Performance

To effectively use MSE one must have a genuine copy of windows. In addition to this MSE takes more time to scan than Avast.

Verdict

Avast offers you greater protection levels than MSE. Hence it gives you a better return in value.
